Joanne Thomson

After completing a three-year Performing Arts degree, Jo studied at the Laban Centre London on a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Dance. From there she moved on to work for Union Dance Company as Education Officer and as a Developmental Movement Teacher in a special school in southeast London.
She currently works as Dance Development Worker for Epping Forest Arts, the arts service provided by Epping Forest District Council,working with children, young people, and people with special needs developing work that promotes community and professional dance in the district.
Some of the projects where she has played a key role as dance artist are:  'linked verses'  (2000) - a dance and music performance and educational project documented on this site and  'Charabanc'  (2001/2) - an excellent example of the challenging and exciting work that is being created by Epping Forest Arts. As dance artist on this project Jo worked with a group of primary school children and adults with disabilities in creative workshops devising a movement piece for all the performances.
Jo has also collaborated with Michael Szpakowski on a number of  movement based pieces  for the web.
